  • We believe in Passive Income, Freedom and Family for all
  • We offer the most generous referral program in the industry for both contractors and opportunities/leads
  • We sincerely want to pay referrer fees as it is a win-win for all: Referrers, Contractors and BrightMinds
  • We engineered the BrightMinds 2≡Connect software platform so Referrers can generate and track invites
Q: Why share contacts with BrightMinds?

BrightMinds makes it simple to share your connections through the BrightMinds 2≡Connect software platform and in return compensates you repeatedly and many times more than standard referral fees or programs.

In fact, How we compare? provides a full list of benefits in referring through BrightMinds.

See the Referring section for program compensation, processes, and many more details.

Q: Who should I refer to BrightMinds?

We are constantly looking for IT contractors / consultants in:

  • Oracle / Oracle-Sun / IBM / CA / Novell Identity Management
  • Reverse Proxy / HA / LB / DR / LDAP / JVM Specialists
  • Solutions / Enterprise / Java / Database / Systems Architecture
  • Enterprise Java / J2EE / Web / SOA / Mobile Development
  • Web / Server / UNIX / Linux / Systems and DB Administration
  • Quality Assurance / Testing / Performance / Tuning
  • Program / Project / Engagement Management

We are not in need of consultants with only these skills (though tools and interoperability are important):

  • Microsoft Identity Management
  • Microsoft .NET Architecture and Development
  • Microsoft Product Stacks (e.g. SharePoint, Small Business Server)

In addition, more experienced IT contractors typically command a higher rate, result in higher passive income for you and are generally speaking easier to engage in contracting.

However, feel free to simply focus on inviting IT contractors and we will focus on qualifying their candidacy and placing them on client and partner opportunities.

Q: What is the contractor referring process?

The BrightMinds 2≡Connect platform manages the entire process and workflow for referring contractors.

The referring process is as follows:

  1. You perform a quick and easy referrer sign-up for FREE
  2. You sign-in and generate a contractor invite for a contractor you know.
  3. BrightMinds' platform sends a "one-time" and time limited invite email with a contractor connect link.
  4. Once the contractor connects with BrightMinds they are automatically linked as referred by you.
  5. BrightMinds reviews and evaluates the referred contractor to place them on BrightMinds contract.
  6. You are rewarded quarterly for each hour your referred contractor(s) work under BrightMinds contract(s).
  7. Sign-in to your account to track your contractors, status and payments 24/7.

See the BrightMinds Referrer Agreement for complete terms.

Q: What is the service lead referring process?

The BrightMinds 2≡Connect platform manages the entire process and workflow for referring contractors.

The referring process is as follows:

  1. You perform a quick and easy referrer sign-up for FREE
  2. You sign-in and generate a service lead invite for a client you know that requires BrightMinds' services.
  3. BrightMinds' platform sends a "one-time" and time limited invite email with a service connect link.

  5. BrightMinds reviews and engages the individual to propose Professional Service contracting.
  6. You are rewarded quarterly for each hour all contractor(s) work under BrightMinds contract(s) for client.
  7. Sign-in to your account to track your service leads, status and payments 24/7.

See the BrightMinds Referrer Agreement for complete terms.

Q: Why not use the term 'Referral'?

A standard 'referral' is a one-time payment that is offered to someone or someone they know.

Unfortunately these 'referrals' are often ignored and ineffective due to their minimal dollar value, effort required to actually collect payment and largely negative preconceived notions.

Q: Why use the term 'Referrer'?

A BrightMinds 'Referrer' receives a fee in return for inviting an IT contractor to connect with BrightMinds.

Unlike 'Referrals', the term 'Referrer' is distinct and not laden with industry standard negative notions.

Q: Why the emphasis on family if I am single?

We refer to "family" in the general sense and want to be respectful to all.

Your family may include a partner, children, parents, friends, etc....

Q: How can I increase my visibility?

After several successful referred contractors or service leads, BrightMinds may approach you to become a BrightMinds Authorized Referrer (BM-AR).

If you agree and have a Linkedin profile, you will be added to the BrightMinds Authorized Referrer page.
Contractors who do not have an invite may reach out to you via Linkedin to request a "contractor invite".

This is aligned with rewarding referrers that contribute to win-win growth and success at BrightMinds.

Q: I just signed up. What do we recommend?

At all times, use common sense, be respectful and realize that referring should be a win-win for all parties.

We recommend the following:

  • Upload a profile photo: It is quick and easy. Moreover your photo is included in each invite and if it is missing then your invite will not show any photo. Studies show personalization improves response rate.
  • Make meaningful connections: Reach out to people you know first and ideally let them know that you will be sending them an invite or ask them if they are interested in an invite to connect with BrightMinds
  • Don't just invite all your contacts: Do a little research or look over their profile. Are they interested in contracting opportunities? Do they use the term 'Consultant'? Have they been on multiple projects?
  • The more you put in the more you reap: Don't simply invite one or two people. The more talented IT contractors and services leads you invite the more opportunities to earn passive income.
  • Earning doesn't stop when you stop: Just because you may not be receiving referrer income in a quarter doesn't mean you won't receive any next quarter, next year or in several years.
  • Follow up with your invites: If in 3-5 days your invite is still in SENT state then follow up to see if they received the invite. If the invite is in OPENED or FOLLOWED then inquire as to why they haven't connected. Some times all it takes a simple follow up. Always respect their privacy by not sending more than a follow up email, in the event that they do not respond, or are not interested.

Referring

Q: What is the BrightMinds Referrer Program?

The BrightMinds Referrer Program is "open" to anyone to provide passive income in exchange for an IT contractor or service lead referral.

Anyone can potentially earn thousands of dollars per year, in passive income, simply by inviting their friends, colleagues, or social network connections to connect with BrightMinds and engage in active contracts.

We designed the BrightMinds 2≡Connect platform so that referrers can sign-up for FREE and track and follow the progression of their invites, connections and referrer payments due to them 24/7.

BrightMinds believes that passive vs. active income is important to all, as it allows people to work less, and spend more time with family, friends, etc... or simply doing what they enjoy in life.

See How we compare? for a full list of benefits when referring through BrightMinds.

Q: What is the compensation under the BrightMinds Referrer Program?

A referrer fee based on each hour that a contractor works on a BrightMinds contract:

  • 4% of the contractor's bill rate for a referred contractor
  • 2% of each contractor's bill rates for a referred service lead

As a bonus to contractors only, the referrer fee will be increased by 50% if, during a fiscal quarter, he / she works 20 cumulative days under a BrightMinds contract. These additional amounts however are subject to constraints with respect to caps and splits as outlined in the BrightMinds Referrer Agreement.

Referrer fees will be paid by cheque, sent through regular mail, within 1 month following the end of each fiscal quarter, provided that client has paid BrightMinds.

Please refer to the BrightMinds Referrer Agreement for full details and terms.

Lastly, please note that terms of this agreement are subject to revision or update at any time without notice.

Q: How does our referrer compensation compare to the industry?

From an industry standard compensation perspective:

  • Most referral programs are inadequate and ineffective because they offer a one-time $500 (or so)
  • Recruiting firms easily earn 50-100 times a standard referral making the practice unbalanced.

Our program is tied to a percentage of a contractors hourly bill rate and thus allows you to potentially earn around 15 times that amount, or more, annually.

See How we compare? for a full list of benefits when referring through BrightMinds.

Q: Why is our referrer program so generous?

The general consensus is that most industry standard referral programs are off-putting and ineffective.
As such, we have built an innovative platform that makes referring rewarding and effective.

In fact, we believe in "people helping people through IT" and rewarding people with passive income.
In turn, this allows people to work less and affords them more freedom and time with family.

Q: What does it cost to sign-up for the program?

Sign-up to the BrightMinds Referrer program is absolutely FREE.

Send invites one-time or any-time or as much as you like. You are not obligated to do anything.

Q: Who can sign-up for the program?

Anyone can join. Knowledge of IT is not required. Simply invite IT contractors you know.

Recruiters, past or present, must ensure they are not in a conflict of interest with past or present employers when sending contractor invites.

Q: Do I need to be in IT to be a referrer?

No. You just need to know IT contractors who may be interested in connecting with BrightMinds.

For some guidance on people to refer see Who should I refer to BrightMinds?

Q: Do I need to be a recruiter or have a recruiter background?

No. You just need to know IT contractors who may be interested in connecting with BrightMinds.

For some guidance on people to refer see Who should I refer to BrightMinds?

Q: Why do I need to electronically sign the referrer agreement?

Because you want BrightMinds to adhere to the terms of payment, privacy, etc... and we want you to adhere to terms we set forth for referrers.

See What is the BrightMinds Referrer Agreement? for more details.

Q: What is the BrightMinds Referrer Agreement?

An agreement that is electronically accepted during Referrer sign-up and morever governs the relationship between the Referrer and BrightMinds and the terms and conditions that bind both parties.

The BrightMinds Referrer Agreement may be updated from time to time without notice.

Recruiters

Q: Can I invite my LinkedIn connections?

It depends on how / when you connected and the terms and conditions of your past or present employments.

As IT recruiters shift through different employers or independently (e.g. head hunter) it may be a non-issue.

However, you are 100% responsible in ensuring that you do not breech any past or present agreements with your employers and do not create a 'Conflict of Interest' as outlined in the BrightMinds Referrer Agreement.

Always seek professional and / or legal advice as you agree to hold BrightMinds harmless.

Q: I am a current recruiter. Can I sign-up?

Yes. Anyone can sign-up for the BrightMinds Referrer Program.

However, you are 100% responsible in ensuring that you do not breech any past or present agreements with your employers and do not create a 'Conflict of Interest' as outlined in the BrightMinds Referrer Agreement.

For example, a non-issue may be if you acquired connections while not employed as a recruiter or during a prior employment or perhaps the domain you are currently recruiting in does not overlap with BrightMinds.

Always seek professional and / or legal advice as you agree to hold BrightMinds harmless.

Q: I was a recruiter in the past. How is this advantageous?

Simply leverage the IT contacts you created during your career to earn significant passive income.

However, make sure you are not in breech of any agreements with previous employers.

Always seek professional and / or advice as you agree to hold BrightMinds harmless.

Q: I am no longer employed as a recruiter. Can I share all my contacts?

It depends on how / when you acquired the contacts and the terms and conditions of past agreements.

Always seek professional and / or advice as you agree to hold BrightMinds harmless.

Q: Can I invite contractors or service leads from my employers database?

No. Even if you are not bound by a confidentiality agreement doing so is clearly unethical.

Your employer would clearly not want you to do this and is likely to seek legal action against you.

Always seek professional and / or legal advice as you agree to hold BrightMinds harmless.

Q: What is a conflict of interest?

If you have learned of a contractor or service / lead through a past or present employment while having signed a confidentiality or other agreement governing those contacts, you should not invite those individuals especially if it is deemed a conflict of interest.

However, it depends on how / when you acquired the contacts and the terms and conditions of your employment agreement(s) at that time.

BrightMinds outlines a 'Conflict of Interest' in the BrightMinds Referrer Agreement that you accept at sign-up.

Always seek professional and / or advice as you agree to hold BrightMinds harmless.

Invites

Q: Why act quickly to send invites?

BrightMinds will only ever send one invitation per referred email address. You will be unable to invite someone who has already been referred by someone else. Therefore, be quick and be first!

Q: Why require full name and email to invite?

You should only invite people you know or that are part of your social network e.g. LinkedIn 1st level.

We take referrer conduct very seriously as outlined in the BrightMinds Referrer Agreement.

Q: Why are my invites under review?

BrightMinds has an advanced invite review process to ensure referrers adhere to terms and conditions of the BrightMinds Referrer Agreement with respect to "Conduct" and that invitees only receive legitimate invites.

This advanced process will mean that new referrers to the program may experience delays when generating invites or limits on the number of invites that can be generated daily.

Q: Is there a limit on the number of invites I can send?

No. There is no limit to the number of IT contractors or service leads you can refer to BrightMinds.

Q: I live in Canada. Can I refer a contractor in the USA?

Yes. As long as the contractor is able to work in either or both countries.

Q: I live in the USA. Can I refer a contractor in Canada?

Yes. As long as the contractor is able to work in either or both countries.

Limits

Q: How many invites can I send?

The number of invitations you can send is generally unlimited.

However, when your account is new, you are limited to 10 invitations that can be under review. Invitations will be reviewed quickly so check back often.

Q: Why can't I just invite directly myself?

BrightMinds ensures invites are "one-time" to limit unsolicited emails to potential IT contractors.

However there are also multiple reasons that benefit referrers; our platform ensures that:

  • Only one referrer can invite a given IT contractor (for a given email address)
  • Referrers will be rewarded for their efforts as is fair for being the first to to invite
  • Referrers can track progress of their invites 24/7 and see their invite status
  • Referrers can track progress of their payments 24/7 and past payment history
Q: Can I invite myself through BrightMinds?

No, as this goes against the spirit of the program of people helping people through IT.

We believe in rewarding contractors and referrers for sharing their connections.

Q: Can I invite family members or a spouse / partner?

Yes, as long as you are not living at the same address.

Referrer fees will not be paid to referrers living at the same address as a contractor.

Issues

Q: What if a referrer tries to refer someone already referred?

The BrightMinds 2≡Connect software platform prevents duplicate invites to the same email address.

However, if someone has multiple email addresses, the referrer that is compensated is the one that the referred utilizes to first connect with BrightMinds.

Q: What if a contractor invite link is not used to connect?

BrightMinds does not allow contractors to connect without an invite.

Q: What if a service lead invite link is not used to connect?

Clients can freely make service connections with BrightMinds without a referrer as BrightMinds can not impose restrictions on clients seeking assistance for their service needs.

However, BrightMinds 2≡Connect platform makes best efforts to link a service lead with a referrer, assuming that a service lead invite link was clicked on prior to a "cold" service connect (using same web browser).

Q: What if a contractor is already known to BrightMinds?

A referrer is not eligible for a referrer fee if a contractor is previously known to BrightMinds.

For example, a contractor may use multiple email addresses and may have already worked for BrightMinds.

Q: What if a client is already known to BrightMinds?

A referrer is not eligible for a referrer fee if a client is previously known to BrightMinds.

For example, a client may use multiple email addresses or may connect through different people and may already have worked with BrightMinds.

However, although a client may already be known to BrightMinds, a referrer may still be eligible for a referrer fee if the service lead corresponds to a division, region or branch that differs from one that BrightMinds has or has had a prior relationship with.

Q: How do I know who is already known to BrightMinds?

When you attempt to generate an invite, the BrightMinds 2≡Connect software platform will immediately inform you if the email address you are trying to refer is already invited or known to BrightMinds.

However, in general you do not know, because for example a contractor may use multiple email addresses or a client may use multiple email addresses (or may connect through different people) and may already have worked with BrightMinds.

Q: What if a contractor is invited by multiple referrers?

BrightMinds ensures that invites are "one-time" per email address.

However, if a contractor has multiple email addresses, the referrer that is compensated is the one that the referred utilizes to first connect with BrightMinds.

Q: What if a service lead is invited by multiple referrers?

BrightMinds ensures that invites are "one-time" per email address.

However, multiple individuals may work at a service lead and as such the referrer that is compensated is the one that anyone from the referred client utilizes first to connect with BrightMinds.

Q: Are there any consequences to abusing invites?

Yes. We take referrer conduct very seriously as outlined in the BrightMinds Referrer Agreement

In general, your account may be suspended or cancelled, without notice, and any referrer payments (pending and future) are automatically and unconditionally forfeited.

Account

Q: How can I earn more passive income?

By inviting as many talented and qualified contractors or service / leads as possible.

This creates passive income streams that will allow you to work less and ideally enjoy life more.

Q: How do I sign-in to my account if I don't remember my email address?

Unfortunately, you need to recall the email address you used to sign-up.

Q: How do I sign-in to my account if I forgot my password?

The forgot password service link allows you to generate a password reset email 24/7.

Once you click on the link in the password reset email, you will be able to securely set a new password.

This link is also present on the account sign-in page.

Q: How do I change my sign-in email address?

This is currently not possible. However, this feature will be available in a future software platform update.

Q: How do I track the status of my invites

The home page of your account when you sign-in provides lists of invites, connected contractors, etc... .
Under the 'Referred' menu you will also find more lists of invites, connections, payments, etc... .

Each invite provides a status:

  • SENT - Invite was sent to invitee (due to technical reasons "may" have been opened)
  • OPENED - Invite was opened by invitee
  • FOLLOWED - Invitee followed the connect link to BrightMinds site but did not connect
  • CONNECTED - Invitee connected with BrightMinds

After 3-5 days you are encouraged to follow up with invites in the SENT state to ensure your invitees did in fact receive the invites (and they are not simply in their SPAM folders).

Likewise, after 3-5 days you may want to follow up with invites in the OPENED or FOLLOWED state to inquire as to why they have not connected or to answer any questions or concerns they may have.

Also feel free to forward or Ask Us any questions not answered in our FAQs.

Q: How do I track the status of active contractors or service / leads?

Sign-in to your account and you will be provided with a list of active contractors and service / leads, total hours worked by fiscal quarter and referrer payments pending to you.

Q: How do I track the referrer amounts that I am owed?

Sign-in to your account and you will be provided with a list of contractors and service/leads, total hours worked by fiscal quarter and referrer payments pending to you.

Q: Why is my account on hold or suspended?

If you violate one or more of the terms and conditions of the BrightMinds Referrer Agreement your referrer invites may be blocked and your referrer account may be suspended without warning.

You will, however, receive an email if your invite is blocked or your account is placed on hold or is suspended, stating what is deemed to have been violated.

Q: Can I transfer my referrer account to someone else?

No. That is not permitted as per the BrightMinds Referrer Agreement.

Payment

Q: Are referrer payments limited / capped in any way?

Under normal circumstances the answer is no. You will receive referrer payments for every contractor you refer that works under a BrightMinds contract.

However, in more atypical cases such as those that involve a referrer fee payment for a service lead and contractor and one or both of the referrers are eligible for a 50% bonus then the referrer payments will either be capped at 6% or split proportionally to total 6%.

For full details please always refer to 7. Remuneration of the BrightMinds Referrer Agreement.

Q: Are referrer payments limited to the first contract only?

No. You will receive referrer payments for ALL contracts a contractor you refer works under.

In fact, referrer payments are made quarterly when within the quarter a contractor you referred works on a BrightMinds contract.

So it is entirely possible for example to refer someone and receive payments years later and / or more frequently down the road.

Q: Do I get referrer payments based on other referrers?

No. You will only receive referrer payments for those contractors or service leads you provided directly.

The program is not a pyramid. Pyramids artificially over-inflate the cost of goods to the end-client, in some cases upwards of 30% in the event that they "may" (assuming there even is a 2nd+ level to pay) need to pay down others in the chain. This results in non-competitive pricing and we feel is an all around lose-lose model.

Q: How will I be paid my referrer payments?

You will be paid by cheque issued in the name of an individual or business (that you elect) by regular mail.

BrightMinds is not responsible for the delivery of said mail or the accuracy of the address you disclose.

Q: When will I be paid my referrer payments?

Cheques will be issued by regular mail, 30 days after the end each fiscal quarter, conditional on BrightMinds having received payment from its client for referrer payments due.

Q: Can I receive referrer payments electronically?

BrightMinds cannot issue electronic referrer fee payments regardless of situation / circumstance.

Unfortunately, this is not due to a technical limitation but rather due to administrative and internal business reasons. If or when this changes all referrers will be notified.

Q: Can I be paid as an individual or must I register as a business?

It is your choice. BrightMinds will contact you prior to issuing your first cheque requesting your payment information. Payments will not be issued until this information is provided.

Q: Does BrightMinds pay referrer fees to individuals?

Yes. The choice is yours. However, we highly recommend that you seek professional advice.

BrightMinds will contact you to request personal details per government regulations prior to issuing your first cheque. Payments will not be issued until this information is provided.

Q: Does BrightMinds pay referrer fees to businesses?

Yes. BrightMinds will contact you to request your business details (e.g. business number, tax number, etc...) prior to issuing your first cheque. Payments will not be issued until this information is provided.

Q: Will BrightMinds retain source deductions when paying individuals?

No. BrightMinds will not make or hold any deductions such as Federal and state/provincial income tax, employment insurance, etc. Any and all source and tax deductions will be entirely your responsibility.

Q: Do I need to generate invoices to be paid my referrer dues?

No. BrightMinds will automatically generate invoices on behalf of individuals or businesses.

Q: Will BrightMinds generated invoices include a HST charge?

It is dependant on your situation. As the referrer payment is rendered in Ontario, Canada, you will be subject to the regulations of the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Unless your total taxable sales are under the small supplier limit (currently $30 000 per year), you must register for and charge GST/HST.

However, please seek your own professional advice. BrightMinds will be contacting you to discuss your situation if you are not registered for a GST/HST account.

Q: Can I transfer, gift, or donate my referrer fee payments?

No. You can not re-assign your account or its benefits as per the Referrer Agreement.

Passive Income

Q: What is passive income?

A worker typically earns 100% active income by being paid for each hour they work.

Passive income is not dependent on "you" doing the work.
Other people are working and you are earning income.

Hence the term "passive" in passive income.

Q: Why is passive income important?

Traditional 100% active income allows you to retire say at age 55 (early retirement) through 65 (or later).

Furthermore, many people wait until, or plan on, retirement to "start" doing the things they enjoy. But then at retirement find themselves at a loss for what to do or wonder why they worked so hard for so long solely earning active income to acquire a pension to sustain them.

However, there is an alternative and it is depicted in this formula:
Passive Income >= Expenses = FREEDOM!

With passive income once your level of passive income "equals or exceeds your expenses" you can essentially retire or do whatever you like with the rest of your life.

Q: Why would I want passive income?

Because it makes life more enjoyable by allowing you to spend more time doing things other than working.

Do you think "I wish I could do X but I could not earn a living from it" where X is painting, photography, volunteering, teaching kids Y, etc.

You can do those things or retire at 30 or 40 or whatever age as long as the formula is satisfied "you" essentially do not "need" to work anymore.

Privacy

Q: Where can I find the BrightMinds Privacy Policy?

Please refer to the full text of the BrightMinds Privacy Policy.

Q: If I sign-up, is my personal information private?

Yes, your personal information and the fact that you signed-up as a BrightMinds Referrer will be kept private.

However, BrightMinds may invite you to become an BrightMinds Authorized Referrer, and if you agree then BrightMinds will post on the Contractor Connect page:

  • Your BrightMinds profile full name
  • Your BrightMinds profile photo
  • A link to your LinkedIn public page
Q: Why am I not asked for more information at sign-up?

BrightMinds believes in retaining minimal information by only requesting information when necessary.

However, after sign-up, it is strongly suggested all referrers sign-in to supply a profile photo and update their personal business information.

We will contact you to request additional information as it is required or per government regulations prior to issuing your first cheque.

Q: Will those I refer be on your mailing list (junk mail, spam or multiple invitations)?

No. BrightMinds will only send a "one-time" invite to each referred contractor or service lead.

Only if someone connects will we communicate with them for contract/business related purposes.

Q: Will my personal information ever get on a mailing list?

No. BrightMinds will only communicate with you as necessary regarding your referrer account.

Q: Will my personal information ever be sold to a 3rd party?

No. BrightMinds does not and will never subscribe to this type of business practice.
